Why is LBW Isle of Man set in first week of August only?

This is a combination of factors caused primarily by the annual Touring Trials motorcycling races.

Ferry

The Steam Packet ferry gets busy in run up to the Classic TT races.

Steam Packet are installing another deck in the Manannan ferry, from Liverpool, to carry more motorcycles.

This is expected to have a knock on effect of reducing the numbers of high vehicles like caravans.

Caravans may be better booking on the Ben-My-Chree ferry from Heysham in Lancashire in England.

Accommodation

Late August will likely have all accommodation booked up across the whole island in the run up to the Classic TT races. This makes it difficult for us to book a normal summer holiday.

Safety

TT motorcycles drive across normal roads in IOM.

This includes the A18 Snaefell Mountain road which we will hike across to reach the mountain top.

Also roads in central Douglas A1 A18, and central Ramsey A3 and A18 .

The racers and spectators will be riding their bikes in practice in the third and fourth weeks of August.

Noise

Again TT motorcycles. Many on the island in late August.

Conclusion

Our safe course of action is to avoid the TT races completely and their lead time in second half of August.

Equally we note some people did not come to LBW2014 Talybont-On-Usk because its July dates clashed with EuroPython Berlin Pycon.DE 21-27 July conference in Germany.

We therefore consider that the first week in August is the best solution for the Isle of Man and we are not offering other dates.
